Labor Doula Services - (Coming Soon)

What is a Labor Doula?

A labor/birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous support to help the mother and her partner through the labor and delivery experience.

She can help answer questions or help the mother find answers to her questions. She can help with comfort techniques, is available throughout the mother's labor and delivery (whether it be natural, medicated, or a cesarean birth), and can also assist with the postpartum period.

Things a Labor Doula does not do...

  • A labor doula does not provide medical advice.

  • A labor doula does not do medical examinations.

  • A labor doula does not assess the mother or infants health.

  • A labor doula does not replace the father or birth partner.

  • A labor doula does not tell the mother what she should do.

  • A labor doula does not speak for the mother.

Tell me more about the program and how can I find out if I qualify for a doula?

If you are interested in obtaining a labor doula for your birth the first step is to contact our organization for an application.  You can either fill out an online application or e-mail us with your name, address, and telephone number and an application will be mailed to you.  After an application is received at our office the Director will have two weeks to review your application to see if you fit within our programs requirements and if so, she will contact you.  The Director will set up an appointment with the mother - the appointment will be held in our South Milwaukee office.  At this appointment the Director will go over details of the program, will gather more information, will go over birth planning and will see if you are a match for any of our other programs.  At this appointment you will also be asked to bring in your fee.  Once this meeting has been attended and the fee paid or fee arrangements are made the mother will then be accepted into the program and the Director will match her with an appropriate doula.

Once matched the doula will contact the mother to get to know her over the phone, and when the mother believes she is in labor it is her responsibility to contact her doula.  Once it is determined that the mother is in labor the doula will join the mother and will stay with the mother throughout her labor and delivery and for approximately one to two hours after the birth to assist with the immediate postpartum period.  The doula will then return to visit the mother while she is still in the hospital or at her home (this will be determined by the doula).  Approximately one week after the birth of the baby the Director will contact the mother via phone to see how she is doing, how her birth went and to see if she is interested in attending our New Parent Support group or needs further assistance.  If it is determined the mother needs further assistance she will be referred to the appropriate professional.

The fee for our doula program service is $30.  This fee can be made in installments if necessary, and in some instances may also be waived.  (Please note that if you were to have to pay full price for a doula the fee would be $400-$800 so your portion of the fee is very low.)
